Channels

A channel is a reusable destination an alert or synthetic check can notify — a list of email recipients or a Slack webhook. Channels live on the Channels page in the LeanSignal app — in the sidebar, or via the Manage Channels button on the Alerts and Synthetics pages — and one channel can serve any number of alert rules and checks.

Press Add channel (editor or admin role), name it (for example On-call email), and pick a type:

  • Email — add up to 10 recipients. Each recipient shows an eligibility status (see below).
  • Slack — paste the Webhook URL of a Slack incoming webhook (https://hooks.slack.com/services/…). The URL is masked after saving, like a credential.

Channels have an Enabled toggle — a disabled channel stays attached to its rules but delivers nothing, which is useful for silencing one destination without touching every rule.

LeanSignal only emails addresses that have consented, so each recipient in an email channel carries a status chip:

StatusMeaningAction
EnabledEligible — notifications are delivered.
Awaiting verificationA verification email was sent; the recipient hasn’t confirmed yet.Resend
Not verifiedNo verification email has gone out yet.Resend
UnsubscribedThe recipient unsubscribed via a link in a LeanSignal email.Re-invite
Blocked by userThe person opted out of LeanSignal emails. Opt-out always wins.

How eligibility works: members of your tenant are eligible by default (unless they opt out under Preferences). An outside address gets a verification email with a confirmation link; only after the recipient confirms does it become eligible. Resend issues a fresh verification email (up to three times per recipient).

Open a channel and press Send test:

  • Email channels send a test notification through the normal delivery path — eligible recipients receive it.
  • Slack channels post a test message (“LeanSignal test — this Slack webhook works.”) directly to the webhook, so you get an immediate Sent — check your Slack channel or Could not reach the webhook URL result.

Channels do nothing on their own — select them in each alert rule’s Channels list (see Alerting). Remember the invariant: a rule with no channel is kept paused, and imported rules from the integrations catalog arrive that way. Deleting a channel doesn’t delete the rules that used it, but they stop notifying through it — and a rule left with zero channels pauses.

  • Alerting — the rules that deliver through these channels.
  • Synthetics — uptime checks that also deliver through these channels.
  • Manage users — personal email opt-out preferences.
