The structural difference

The AI cost model
Section titled “The AI cost model”As of mid-2026, Grafana Assistant is a metered SKU: $20/month per active AI user with 40M tokens bundled and $2/1M overage — and “active user” triggers on any AI touch, including a single message or MCP connection in the month. The Assistant is Cloud-only, with models chosen by Grafana.
Grafana deserves the credit here: publishing token math is the honest end of the market, and LeanSignal takes the same stance one step further. LeanBuddy’s math publishes not just the bundle but the weighting (1 credit = 1 cent, cost-weighted tokens), and the allowance is a hard cap with no overage billing — spend stops at the ceiling rather than metering past it. Structurally, LeanBuddy also searches less: the store beneath it holds only the demanded subset, so the assistant’s work — like yours — is bounded by design.
The reframe: Grafana made the assistant’s tokens transparent. LeanSignal caps them — and anchors the platform underneath to declared demand instead of shipped volume.
